Cape Town: Lion´s Head

This post is written in English so that my international friends doesn’t have to use Google Translator 😉 Those who doesn’t understand English or are ashamed of my poor language skills, please look these pictures anyway.

The other girls had planned to go surfing on Thursday but I wasn’t into that. So, I decided to go to the Greenmarket with David after having a good breakfast at Kauai. Greenmarket is a big handcraft market near the Longstreet and is kind of must-see-thing in Cape Town. For me it was a little bit of letbecause there was exactly same stuff than everywhere else too. So, I just bought only one painting and David too. Then we left to the harbor one last time. The harbor is beautiful just to hang around and enjoy street music players with cup of coffee.

We came to our hostel around 1 and after 2 o’clock we met a guy, Johnathan, from US. We chatted a little bit and asked him to join us to hike up to the Lion´s Head. We were sure that he is not interested because we gave only 15minutes warning time but surprisingly he wanted to join. He also asked his friend to join. We ordered a uber and then we were already on our way to Lion´s Head parking lot. I had previously already asked tips from the receptionist and she told me not to go there in the dark time. If we would like to see the sunset there, we should come little bit down before the sunset. Lions Heads top is dangerous and hard to climb back during darkness, she said. So, our plan was to hike up before the sunset and then watch the sunset in the middle way back down.

Lion´s Head is a mountain between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Lion´s head peaks up to 669metres above sea level and hike-trail up takes approximately about 1 hour. We met Steven in a parking lot and started to hike. The view at the beginning were already amazing and the vies becomes more and more amazing when you keep walking. Also, the path becomes more interesting the higher you get. (Note: The path is not suitable for dogs or small children.) In one point, we found a sign where we needed to make a choice. You can either to take an easy and recommended route or the hard and tough route to getting up. Me, Steven and Johnathan chose the hard one and after couples of minutes Tiia joined us. The others took the easy route. We were more than happy that we chose this route option. Along this path we founded ladders and chains to assist us to climb up. Crazyyyy. I didn´t expect anything like this.

It was hot and I was dying

Ladders on our way up. Nice.

The hard route. Always time for a selfie ha?

The view over Cape Town, Table Mountain, the Atlantic and Camps Bay were stunning! Amazing, spectacular, beautiful and every other adjective I don’t remember now. It would have been awesome to watch sunset there but the path… It was already difficult to climb up with day light.

The hard route on our way down

Note for everyone: it is difficult to get a taxi from Lion´s Head! There is none. You need to walk down to main street or own a taxi number.

After fast showers and few drinks at the hostel´s bar, we left to the Mexican restaurant nearby. We didn’t have eaten entire day so we were hungry. I took chicken burger and it was so good that I can still taste that in my mouth. Then we drunk. A lot. And went to one bar in Long Street. And drunk again. A lot. And danced a lot. I think this was one of the funniest night during these three months in Africa. Did you know that Americans are crazy to dance? Yeah, I know now. Hugs and kisses to Johnathan and Steven!
